2nd Cornet - Rob Stark

ImageRob is one of the 'Kettering Gang' at Harborough Band. He joined full-time in 1995 after some part-time playing during his breaks from university.

His interest in music began at the age of about 7 when he joined a local marching band in Kettering, the 'Royal Blues', playing the Trumpet. During his school years he progressed to Grade 5 Cornet and also played the Organ on which he passed Grade 2. (He also passed Grade 1 Violin, but doesn't like to talk about it!!)

In 1988 Rob joined the Northamptonshire County Youth Brass Band, working his way from 3rd cornet to repiano, enjoying several years of playing at many major venues in the UK and touring places like Germany and Austria.

He also played in the Earls Barton Silver Band for about 3 years before permanently joining Harborough on Solo Cornet. From the beginning of 2001 he has moved to his current position on 2nd Cornet following a reorganization that has produced "a cornet section I am proud to be a part of".

He joined the Harborough Band in 1995.

Alistair lists his hobbies as Mountaineering, climbing and gardening.

Bass Trombone - Stuart Grainger

Image Stuart (son of Steve) is a multifaceted player who also dabbles with percussion. A recent vacancy and the development of our new percussion section has seen Stuart move onto Bass Trombone. Also a Salvation Army player, he fits his playing round baking bread in Sainsburys in Kettering for all those hungry peoples sandwiches.

Basses

Eb Bass - Steve Orton

ImageSteve is the longest serving playing member of the band, having played since 1979.

He is a regular fund raiser, and is always looking for new ways to earn money for the band, particularly at present as we are trying to raise money for our new band room.

Eb Bass - Sarah Borman

ImageSarah learned to play the cornet at the age of 10 and soon moved to tuba.

Mr Graham Lacey tutored Sarah during her time at Pilton School and North Devon College. She played with the various school orchestras and the local music centre.

Sarah progressed through the Devon Youth Music groups taking up a place in the County Youth Orchestra. During her time with the orchestra she performed at the Albert Hall playing 'The Last Night' of the junior prom and at the Festival Hall as part of a massed orchestra of 2000 musicians.

Sarah has played with the Barnstaple Concert band during her time in Devon. She also played with the Snowdon Colliery Band whilst in Kent on industrial placement from university. Following her graduation she gained employment with Bestfoods and relocated to Market Harborough in 1998. She plays Eb Bass, and also serves on the committee.

During her first Christmas with the band Sarah 'met' fellow band member William Borman, who is now her husband. They were delighted that band members were able to travel to Devon for their marriage and that Musical Director Mr Chris Groom was able to play as Sarah walked down the aisle.

Bb Bass - John Clarke

 Bb Bass - Derek Wadey

ImageDerek is another recent and very welcome addition to the band, as our Bb bass section had been sorely lacking for some time!  He took a little persuading to join, but is now very happy he did and is doing a great job boosting the lower end of the band.

His picture and more details will appear shortly.
